I live in my own place private renting with my girlfriend both work 40hrs pw, I do shifts ATM but going to college to do my maths and English in September, then in 2016 I want to start an electrician course, my only option to train as an electrician is a part-time course because I have to keep renting, estimate how much do you think I will be paying for a course? How many years will it take to qualify? I do want to be an electrician I'm not bothered that's it's a competitive trade if you put your mind to it I should be ok, do you know or are you an adult learner? Is it a good route and is it possible really? Thanks guys. The questions may sound stupid and probably in-understandable but I will rephrase if they are haha

If you are looking at doing an evening course then look in to the city and guilds 2365 level 2 then you should naturally progress on to 2365 level 3. you will have to be practising the trade to complete your nvq level 3 2356 that also includes doing an AM2 exam. Look at your local college to see if they a running the 2356 level 2 as an evening course (it's normally over two evenings a week) and costs about ÂŁ800.

Don't be tempted by any short course offering 2bob qualifications for astronomical fees either.
I know I almost got scammed by one about 3 months ago he came to my house and everything it was tradesgateway I can't believe it, almost had me right in my face but my body was just telling me something isn't right I won't make that mistake again I know it not quick to be an electrician I just wanted it that bad, I'm going to stick at it in college and get my head down

Any cource check if it has QCF other wise its just a dear bit of paper

A good site I use (city and guilds numbers)
Electrical Qualifications - Qualifications needed to train to become an electrician in the UK

But I will point out that city and guilds are not the only ones now
You have EAL and Logic Certification
EAL do the electrician cources like city and guilds (NOTE that electricians tend to use the city and guilds coding system for cources than their names)
Logic Certification (personnel I don't like they way they do tests, I would go with City and Guilds, then EAL and Logic only if I had to)
(I've done cources with them all. I liked C&G but the 2394/5 (old name 2391 with 2396) had a 40% pass rate, I was too scared to play them odds so tries Logic and just passed on my 2394, had to get 100% makes on each question with 3marks or leas and 75% for 4marks and above)
I can personally miss read questions and lose marks but gain else were, but the that marking I couldn't lose any.
I think I lost marks as I didn't put (I think) a fused screw driver as a way to test (was told you could but not suggested, so I ignored it)
The 2395 I did was EAL and felt and was a lot easier.
NB I did both couces with the same FE training centre

Would suggest reading up on a subject before doing a cource

Well done setting yourself targets towards your goal, hope it all works out for you.
Will you be working as a sparky mate / trainee while you do these courses ?
