hey,
so you go to a job to add a socket, i always try and extend the ring main as appose to a 4mm spur, so i start by doing so and find out that the 2.5 t&e has a 1mm cpc, so i do the work and note on the certificate that ring main has 1 mm cpc. is this correct, or should i be suggesting to the customer that the ring main is upgraded to new cabling?
cheers guys

I believe it depends upon the type of protection the circuit has. If it is protected by a 3036 fuse wire then i think that it should be changed for an mcb. Don`t know the exact ins and outs of it. This is just what i have seen on other posts

I would extend the ring and note on the cert that the existing CPC does not meet current regulations....(assuming R1R2 and Zs and ring continuity were ok of course)....and that I dont consider it compromises the safety of the installation.
Regardless of the rights and wrongs and recommendtions ,1.0mm cpc's were and still are used without problems ,and in 30 yrs in the job I've yet to see a problem I can attribute to a 1.0mm cpc on a ring......If on a PIR I would code 4.
