I'll try to be brief, I have a ccu change to do and whilst checking the associated wiring I noticed the ring main is wired in the old twin cable ( no cpc) but seperate earth singles have been run with them. Obviously they should have adequate mechanical protection etc. but if test readings are acceptable can I leave it and comment on the install cert? Or does it have to be completely rewired??

To be honest you have been asked to change the consumer, in your opinion would this leave the existing installation safer? In my opinion the answer has to be yes.

So I would go ahead and change the CU and as you wrote in the section marked existing installation comment on the RF and advise the client what remedial work is to be done.

IMO there is nothing wrong with what has been done aslong as everything tests out fine. Are these single earths insulated? There is no reg to my knowledge that the cpc's must be sheathed! Why should they be?

However, an exisiting circuit does not have to be changed to comply with current regulations otherwise we would be doing continual rewires. So if the tests are good, leave well alone and note it on the form.

Malcolm, just had a look and you're right. Need more info on size etc then. Learn something new every day! Thats Definitely getting stored in the old memory bank now haha
