As the title says, what is everyone favourite part of the job?, is it meeting new people, fault finding, design or install or anything in between

They can't do it without me - simple as. Example.... I'm the senior electrician (SPR in BS7909 speak) literally just walked on to a bare field on Friday, nothing there except birds, trees and rain. In two weekends time there will be 18,000 people living and living it up there, campsites, caterers, bars, stages, artists you see on TV..... and all of them need a little bit of Rockingit.

And I don't say that egotistically, at least I hope not, I say it because it's a buzz like no other. Most of you good lads n lasses finish work and enjoy the weekend - we make the weekend.

It's challenging, my learning and skillset have had to expand in areas the apprentice me 32 years ago would never have dreamed of, not just the technical sparky stuff but things like how to field strip a genset in the middle of the desert at night after some numpty has managed to fill the fuel rails with water, or the social skills needed to smooth the waters of an irate artist manager if something's gone wrong or the ability to speak the many languages of the other trades involved - sound, lighting, visual, structural.....

It's not without its challenges, especially with having had to ride out 18 months of lockdown and an industry literally on it's knees through both Covid and Brexit, the hours are long and antisocial, the travel isn't as glamorous as it seems, it's hard on home life and relationships (I'm twice divorced....) etc.

But I wouldn't swap it for anything else.

I bet you kept the log in info for online viewing…..

best thing about being an electrician?
Not being a plumber!
Nah... Be interesting to see who she does entertain...lol ...before leaving i set it all to russian anyway. Would likely struggle to use menus anyway now.
She has a house - a very nice house elsewhere in Bath which is home... Have done work there for her. The flat is the office so to speak.
She knows how to earn a living !

I've several friends who are sex workers / high class escorts - they all claim it's the best job in the world

Really like ev chargers, renewables etc.. but actually the pay is good! Not many jobs let you earn ÂŁ300 for something that starts at 9 finished and home by 3!!
Only people i can think who do similar are the boiler engineers and Nastasia the Russian girl in Bath who I installed cctv for... She charges.her customers ÂŁ100 per half hour!!
We'd never have guessed ?

For me it's the autonomy of being self employed. Although that's cheating a bit as it's not just related to electrics.

Gosh, it's difficult to say exactly what it is about electrics. I genuinely enjoy most days I'm at work, but I'm not sure why. I just enjoy the task I am doing, perhaps because I believe I am quite good at it (although not as good as westward obviously ?), therefore I'm getting satisfaction. That satisfaction would diminish though if I was working for someone, I don't believe I would take as much pride in my work.

I like electricity.

Electricity in the theatre.

Electricity, theatre, machines, control gear, generators.

Also substations, switch rooms, busbars, isolators, switch fuses, distribution boards, cables trunkingconduitswitchessocketslightsplugsrelayscontactorsmotorsrheostatsdimmersstarterstransformersrotaryconverterskapposcillatoryphaseadvancersentzgroundboostersmercuryarcrectifiers and various stuff I can't put a name to.

And MI cable.

MI cable in historic buildings.

MI cable, historic buildings, restoration, conservation, installation.

Also....

i like the modern technology...... lights that turn on with a switch instead of a match; magical things that go round and round without a steam engine; farm machinery that's not powered by hay.

I enjoy finding faults. My work is almost all at power stations, subs and windfarms. I like being in a switchroom doing maintenance and finding a fault on a breaker. Clambering all over a gen transformer in the pouring rain testing all the protection devices. Analysing an oil sample and deciding theres a fault with the Tx before it goes bang. Repairing equipment that others want to scrap. I just enjoy my work ?
