I'm doing an electrical installation for a client who wants me to run a cable for a pv installation that may be required sometime in the future.

Do I just run a 2.5 t&e cable from the roof to the main c/unit?

I'm not sure what's needed, can someone help please?
 
In simple terms Yes thats it.

If the client intends having a roof mounted system it is unlikely to be over the 4Kw mark and so 16amp generation so 2.5T&E will be fine. Leave a spare way on the CU and a good coil in the loft. I wouls suggest not connecting either end and just mark them up a PV USE.

It's actually a flat roof so I'll just take the cable into an IP rated box and leave it for others.

hope its not too late to ask you if your client is going to have a roof mounted inverter or not?
If so,then you can run your 2+E ,2.5mm2 as MarkC said,because it will be on the AC side .But if the inverter is to go down in the building,then you have to run two separate 6mm2 solar cables either red and blue or blacks with marks on them.
Downsizing the DC cable is not a good solution as most of the PV modules come with factory installed 6mm2 multicore cables for connection.

Maybe this is a bit extreme but I have just finished a solar circuit and this is what I had to do:

16A MCB in CCU ---> 32A Lockable Isolator ---> Solar PV Meter ---> 2.5mm SWA to Loft ---> 32A Lockable Isolator ---> Inverter ---> PV Array

Only issue I have with this is that have to run a separate earth to the Galvanised Box for the SWA to earth the solar side of the isolator - as the PV Meter doesn't need the earth so it gets broken there in effect.

I have got some pictures of the wiring which I will try and put on if anyone is interested.

Oh and they don't have to be 32A Isolators its just there slightly easier to work with as they are a bit bigger then the 20A Versions!

you should have the first isolator between the PV array and the inverter,on the DC side.All you have to worry about is the maximum amps the array is going to pump in the inverter,so you multiply that by 1.5 and this will give you the size of the isolator.
For the other 32A one, near the fuse board,you are right,its too big,as its on the AC and having a 16A MCB determines the size of the isolator.
 
The array is directly connected to the inverter with it's own specific connectors. There not going to be wired into an isolator between the panels and the inverter? The isolator should be between the inverter and the cable going back to the CU (Maybe I am wrong?)

As for the 32A Isolator I am aware that it was to big. But like I said there was a bit more room to work with hence fitting it. Doesn't make a blind bit of difference as long as it can take the load going through it.

listen what edexlab says.You need a DC isolator ,to shut down the PV array in case the inverter goes wrong.
By disconnecting the PV array form the inverter,you'll switch the inverter off automatically.There will be no electricity generated.
The best is if you do use two isolators - one before the inverter and one before the main board.
