Hi,

I've been quoted for a system that includes:

10 Sanyo HIT-H250E01 panels and a Kaco Powador 3002 Inverter.

OR

8 SUNPOWER SPR-327NE-WHT-D panels and a Kaco Powador 3002 Inverter.

They would be fitted in 2 strings on two different sections of roof. If it's not too much of a vague question how much does the above kit cost (trade) and what would you say was a fair estimate for either of the above systems installed?

Thanks for looking.

Matt

Why dont you get three quotes based on the same setup, and decide on advice, experience, locality of company and price , what difference would it make as to the cost of the kit.

As it happens I am in the process of getting some different quotes. The reason I ask about that particular kit is that I want to get an idea for the base price so I can make a more informed decision on whether I may be getting ripped off or not - also just out of interest. I've been reading that solar pv modules and kit has been coming down in price and is set to keep coming down. BTW - I'm totally up for paying a fair price for a system - just trying to get as much info as possible before I hand over a sizable chunk of money!

Thanks

You could try 'phoning PV suppliers or looking on the internet; discounts for the trade vary but often they are not much unless you are buying very large quantities. Unfortunately I don't install these systems so I can't be of more help.

Maybe I should re-phrase the question a bit.....what is the going rate for 2.5KW system installed, post 12th December? Or is it too early to ask such as question. I expect prices are in limbo at present what with the FIT's fiasco.

Thanks

Yes your right, its a bit early TBH - also the FiT has not been confirmed either which is making life difficult with regards to quoting.

i dont think the Kaco Powador 3002 is a good choice as it only has 1 Mpp tracker.

Forgive for me for being ignorant but are you saying that because my system requires 2 strings of panels on different roofs a better choice for inverter would have 2 MPP trackers. Looking at the spec for the Kaco inverter it says it can handle up to 3 strings per tracker?

Thanks

You only need separate mppt if you have different arrays on different facing roofs. You can still string the same array into 2 if the inverter requires.

As for the pricing, 2.5kwp will cost around ÂŁ6000 significantly more for Sanyo panels.

We couldn't do it for 6k and wouldn't sign any contracts until DECC get off their fat backsides and confirm the Feed in Tariff rate for customers between now and April.

2.5kWp for closer to ÂŁ7k would be what I suspect we'd be looking at, based on the module pricing info I currently have. That's for decent kit, not anonymous far-eastern tat, and would include a full structural survey of your roof (which still seems to be a rarity out there in the real world).

For the people that may be looking for quotes, it really would help if you posted the area that you live.
There are some excellent PV companies on here, and one or two not so excellent, but you may live just around the corner from one of the good guys, and I am sure they would be more than willing to pop round and advise you.
Hope this helps

There's one thing wanting to know the installed prices of panels etc. so you can compare prices and therefore see if your getting ripped off. That in itself, as others have stated can vary for a number of reasons quality of materials, quality of workmanship, overheads....... but its another to want to know the cost price to see how much profit us hard workers make.
