Hi,

I installed a set of 5 downlights from B&Q. The downlights come hardwired into a daisy chain and worked initially for perhaps two months. Now only the first light on the chain works (the one closest to the transformer).

I've tried changing the bulbs, but that's not the issue. I've also used a tester screwdriver and the current is flowing through all the connections. (And yes i know old-skool testers are no good!)

Yes, I'm a plumber. ;)

Any advice? Is it a simple issue or do i need to give photos...

Oliver

The tester you have will tell you there is voltage present, it won't tell you if there is current flowing in the wire ;)

Could be a number of things. Most likely a poor connection. Did the last four fail at the same time or has it been progressive?

All at the same time unfortunately. Does that mean it's definitely a loose wire.

****, new ceiling too. They're under guarantee but god knows how I'm gonna get them replaced -particularly as one of the wires goes through a drilled hole in a joist...

The fault almost certainly lies between the light that is working and the first light that isn't. If they came hardwired then it's going to make faultfinding and repairs a whole lot trickier. Maybe see if there's a sparky on here that's close to you and needs some minor plumbing repairs. Trade him quid pro quo.
