Back in the days of old earth electrical equipment was a lot dearer with reference to wages ie a weeks wage was ÂŁ250 but a wylex board was ÂŁ120 today its ÂŁ500 and ÂŁ75 so then a few guys skipped on the earth sleeving which was expensive because the manufacturers thought you could not do without it hence why some sparks used red or black sleeving and if you were lucky they put a bit of green tape on it or they even just put green tape on the earth. In other words yes this is not acceptable today but it was the norm 30 years ago and no I have never done it as I was in the industrial commercial sector and only touched domestics for me and family at the time.
Here endith the lesson

Correct Penzance!!!! the cable in question that was "mis coloured" had indeed have G/Y sleeving over it and was connected to the Earth in the fitting!!

lets just say the customer attempted to fit this light him self along with couple of 2 way lighting switches that i had pleasure of correcting!! :)

surprised no body was hurt TBH!!! luckily i tugged the cable and the was plenty slack in the cavity to get some nice "clean" cable that was not brittle and corroded!!

That took me down memory lane ........................

Could be worse.
The twin and earth could have been used as a strapper, so all three carrying a live supply dependant only on switch position.
And yes have seen it more times than I would like.
Bet I'm not alone on that either lads.
