Whats your thoughts?!

was talking to a kitchen fitter the other day..............the enemy!!................anyway, was discussing about 'above' the worktop FCU down to 20 amp surface plates to connect fridge, dishwashers etc instead of 13a socket plates.
Integrated stuff does not leave much room for 13A plugs and this sometimes means fitting a surface patress in the next cupboard but regs state that 'fixed to the fabric of the building where possible' should be adopted??!
and cutting the plug off (which are usually moulded these days) to connect into a 20A surface plate may effect the warranty of the appliance in question.
What do u think anyway?

the main problem would be removing the moulded plug for appliance which will void its warranty

I would never again cut a plug top off an appliance, the last time I did the washing machine decided to throw its hand in after about 6 months. I then got a call from the homeowner to say I had invalidated the warranty, and the repair of the machine had to be paid for.

Cut hole in the back of the unit and fix socket to wall. I usually put socket in adjacent cupboard, cobblers to fixed to fabric of building. If unit is fixed to wall and socket is fixed to unit, then it is fixed to fabric of building anyway in my opinion, suppose it is down to how you interpret the regs. unfortunately those who dream up the rules dont have to play the game.

I believe if it was taken to court,the appliance maker wouldn't have a leg to stand on
Cutting off a plug top and replacing or connecting into a fused spur alters nothing with regard the appliance function

Its a bit like a shop that wont replace a faulty item unless there is a reciept,the courts have ruled that the consumer only had to show he bought the item in the vicinity and that the shop was more than likely to have been the place where it was purchased

These companies and insurances play these games to save outlay, when they will in all probability lose, if the case were fought in the courts

If the plug had overheated and was all burnt and discoloured you would have to cut it off anyway so charlie hollocks i say

i also av no prob cuttin the plug off and have had experience of appliance bein faulty i told the manufacturer that it was cut of as an intergrated fridge imo was a fixed appliance and that i belive a plug top shud only be used on portable equipment were it is easy accessed, also the inconveinance if the fuse in the plug top blows, he had nothing to say to this and the fridge was replaced no prob. Flat screen tvs on the other hand is a different kettle of fish i wud not cut plug top off

I do a lot of work for a kitchen fitter, and always put the socket in the cupboard and cut a big hole to fit plug top through. I believe this is the best way of doing it,
