Hi all

If i was changing a consumer unit and noticed that the electric shower had been fitted with the wrong size cable do i have to correct it under any kind of regulation or law ?

or am i ok as long as i include it on the report and let the customer know ?

What size cable is it,what is the rating of the shower and what size is the breaker?

not sure what the rating on the shower or the fuse is (which makes the rest useless doesent it lol ?)

but i know its a 6mm2 cable, i know generally they are 10mm2 cables for showers now and know how to work out the cross sectional area of the cable needed, i was just wondering whether if it was wrong would i as the fitter of the CU have to change it ? or just notify the customer ?

All you can do is notify the customer and note it on the cert,but the 6mm cable may be ok for the shower he is using.

just make sure the circuit breaker is protecting the cable....ie dont go sticking it on a 50a breaker

Best i have seen yet was a 7.5kw triton shower on a 2.5mm2 cable, no isolator, spured direct off the kitchen ring main

Dunno, i was called because of a fault with a lighting circuit, it was the same house that the gas cooker was connected to the 15mm gas feed by means of a length of garden hose and 2 jubilee clips
