Guys

Do you think these comments are o.k to send to client was suppose to change fuse board but come up with this probelms. So just install protection for new shower room

When carrying out fuse board change the following problems were found with the existing circuits. A new 2 way board has been fitted with rcd protection for the shower room.

On investigation is was noted that there are 4 number radial circuits that are being run off of 2 fuses under regs it should be 1 circuit per a fuse.

In the kitchen 1.5mm cable is being used in the 1 of the sockets this should be 2.5mm(radial cicuit. This is were the kettle is plugged in. Over time this cable may break down because of the build up of heat this will be from the amount of power that the kettle will be drawing.

On insulation resistance testing of the sockets in the back extension was not getting correct reading. This seems to be connected into part of the kitchen circuit (radial from a 4mm cable)then ran to a isolator with 4 spot lights as well .Would recommend to do away with isolator and run straight back to board.

thanks

Did you do the investigation before changing the board or after, with reference to the insulation reading obtained what was the actual value what it less then minimum allowable by BS7671:2008 or was it say 10 Mohms eg low reading, I find it better to give them a reading and explain it indicate a breakdown in insulation or some other problem present, ( it to be damp in walls). what ever reason installation need monitoring

Yes inform them that due to undersized conductor installed there is an increased risk of deteriation of conductor insulation and life of circuit also greater risk of fire due to excessive overloading, may consider reducing fuse or breaker from 30/32A down to 15/16A.

With what looks like only 5 circuits you can probably put a little 5 way garage consumer unit in there if money is tight
