Silly question to all you experienced sparks, but your advice would be really helpfull.

When would you uprage the bonding to gas/water etc to meet current regs?

New consumer box - yes

new circuit?

extend a circuit?

new light fitting or socket?

cheers

Before an addition or alteration can be made to an existing installation it must be ascertained that the earthing and bonding arrangements comply with the current version of BS7671 and any existing electrical equipment including the incoming supply is adequate for the proposed addition or alteration. 131.8

So before you do any work the bonding must upgraded if required.

I was told that you only need to upgrade the bonding to 10mm if you are carrying out work that requires an EIC.If you are only doing works that requires a MW certificate and the MEB is 6mm then you only need to recomend that is upgraded to 10mm on the certificate.

Adiabatic anyone?
Also look in ESC BPG and you will be apporpriately advised.
IIRC upgradin of main & equipotential bonding is only required if not present, showing signs of thermal damage or has other specific deficiencies, late now tired!

adiabatic shall not be used to size main bonding conductors

Quite correct I said it was late!
I didn't read the OP correctly.
I was also thnking of a PIR situation not upgrades!
ESC BPG on domestic PIR suggests a code 2 for main bonding less than 6mm sq or that showing signs of thermal damage.
So I got totally the wrong end of the stick!

I'll try harder next time.
