Unfortunately I left school and started my apprenticeship in 1962, so that makes me about 30

We were still using lead covered for repairs to lead installations

TRS rubber was still on the shelf and was being installed up to around 1963 alongside the new fangled pvc

VIR was not being installed anymore

PVC twin was on the shelf to be run with a seperate copper earth for sockets etc,( finger cutting job when it snagged through the joists)

pendants had to be asembled during lunch with silk covered rubber flex

aluminium made a short appearance in the late sixties

I started my apprenticeship in 1975 so that makes me about 17 by trebor standards.

We installed Alluminium T + E on a couple of jobs late 75, but it was proving a real headache. By '75 we had this fancy pvc/pvc twin flexible to make up our pendants with.

Never worked with PVC twin, just stripping it out on rewires. nasty that separate bare earth.

i was on a rewire the other day and we ripped out some old single cables that were encased in a wooden(?) trunking with two indentations running along the length of it for the cables to sit. one indent per core. for tees they just stripped off an inch of insulation and twisted the tee'd cable on to it. ?????

In Australia k and t till 1920 then CCR till 1930,VIR till 1958,PVC 1954 -present,AL home,1973-1980,illegal unless used with copalum connectors now.
Led covere rubber cables are still sometimes found in old joints as are BX cables this crap is deadly common for the insulation to crack and with only a steel spiral for ground fires start, sometimes called jewish lightning.
