hi all . bit stuck on this one ! instald new 10mm water bond today from cu to water stop tap as no bond was present.the main water into the property is lead as far as the brass stop tap and from the stop tap to the rest of the kitchen is 15mm speedfit plastic ! no copper in site but at the boiler in the next door room it is copper .so wher do i clamp my 10mm earth to ? thanks

Hi Mate ! The Lead pipe and the brass stop tap are likely to be both extraneous conductive parts ,therefore you will need to Main bond with a clamp to the pipe [ Trouble here is that BS 951 clamps are not suitable for soft metal such as lead...so you need to sort something else out for the type of clamp ...google it and you will find suitable methods ].

..As for the copper pipework at the boiler ,probably no need to main bond unless it goes into the ground ,and therefore possibly becoming an extraneous conductive part....test back to the met with a wander lead for verification.[ Note : always consult boiler manufacturers data as to bonding requirements ,as they take precedence over the regs.

the copper on boiler and rads possibly only for show and changes to speedfit stuff under worktop/floor? as for the lead there are clamps avaiable dont be tempted to use normal clips as these could crush lead and cause leak

just another bit of info on the subject ..taken from the ESC essential guide....refers to the clamps on Armour or mettallic sheaths

. Misuse of BS 951 clamps
Cases of misuse of BS 951 clamps are occasionally found, some examples of which are given below.
5.1 Fitting a BS 951 clamp to the armour or metallic sheath of a cable
BS 951 states that clamps to this standard are not intended for connection to the armour or sheath of a cable and requires the packaging of the clamp to include the warning “Not intended for use on the sheath or armour of a cable”. This is because the action of tightening the clamp is liable to damage the cable, for example by crushing the bedding or insulation or by causing the metal in a lead sheath to cold-flow. Such damage may result in high resistance and unreliability in the electrical connection between the clamp and the armouring or metallic sheath, and may even result in an electrical fault within the cable, with the possibility of serious injury to persons. Fitting a BS 951 clamp to the armour or metallic sheath of a cable is therefore unacceptable.
