quick run down up to
got an apprenticeship was all going well till 2 years down i wasnt covering work i need to for nvq and was getting paid next to nothing and made me sick ended up working in a facotry, got myself a job as a mate on a college newbuild but when that job came to an end so my job with the company, currently at uni now but cant stand it and want to get back into the trade but getting now where!

i have my 17th , 2330 level 2 &3 , nvq 2 in electrical, and looking to do my 2391

ive looked for jobs all over and nothings coming up, even looked into my part p and setting up on my own but my testing isnt top notch atm hence doing 2391, after this i should be more than competent shouldnt I? touch wood ill pass will be giving it 110%

i looked at nic and elecsa for part p - nic seems good from the point its very well known but elecsa is cheaper so less outlay and they only want to see one job for the assesment which is better as i'd be just starting out.

or do a look for a specilist area. which ever path, I want to be working for myself or atleast told what jobs i have for the week and then just plod on.

I've looked at solar Pv slighty but theres nothing up north about it and seems that before long every man and his dog will be on the band wagon and doing a course in it.

Sorry to hear about the jobs situation but i wouldn't say that the 2391 will teach you how to test - it assumes that you already know most of it already. Mind the pressure of it might force you to brush up on what you learnt during your 2330 level 3

If you haven't got a MFT/tester get one bought and start practicing - i know more expense :(
but that in IMO will be the best way to get more confident at it - good luck

pushrod - -found one and only want 100 quid for it with a calibration cert aswell think ill go for that and just start going round famlies houses testing them all

Start with very close family and it might lead to a few small jobs, and then friends. If you're good, clean and tidy then word of mouth can be very powerful advertising. There is always here to add to any confusion you might have over anything ;)
Go for it and good luck.

just found a company "delta" who i can do my nvq3 via, which is a good cert to have in my opinion so may go for that before the testing. my mian worrie is that i wont land a job complete my jobs required for the nvq. and ill be in the same position as i am now this time next year :/

Spot on mate, and stormy higginson in the office sounds hot too!!

cheers i guess you have a job at present, as i cant seem to find a job at the moment i might have to see if i can go along with former employer if he has any job and offer my services for free and just get all the evidence i need for my nvq

far be it for me to interject here, but let's assume that interjections are ok. Working for FREE? There's enough money making, pee taking outfits out there who will gladly line their pockets while you're punching it out for them to spend all their spare time in Spain. I know You'll be getting 'something' out of it, but...

I don't think of myself as a 'union' kind of man. I'm mostly right of centre, politically speaking, by which I mean that people should be paid according to what they do and know.

i fully appreciate your predicament. fear for all our livelihoods when we offer to work for free.

Please don't take this as criticism. Think about yourself, and the implications for everybody else. ONE day, a great opportunity to gain accreditation, AND get paid. WILL come along.

Keep the faith..

respect.

I would do a few small jobs preferably non notifiable through friends and family. If you price yourself accordingly and explain you are still learning hence why you are charging less then you will get the experience and confidence to put yourself out there. Its hard at first but there is still work out there even if its the smaller jobs that don't make a lot of money. I have found that a small job like a socket spur can easily develop into a consumer unit change if you are good to the customer and they trust you, and its incredible how word spreads - go for it and good luck.:)
