Hi, PIR in posh flat. Has low level built-in air conditioning units on dedicated circuit. Buried cables all the way up to the aircon unit. Ok to test fixed wiring from CU up to aircon isolator (a few meters from the aircon unit), or should I take front off aircon unit, disconnect power and test up to there? Also, to clarify a point for me, would you PAT test the aircon unit? (Notwithstanding that it's not portable and is Class II, but let's just assume it did have metallic parts for the sake of this question about overall installation safety).

Thanks loads, SW.

I'd go upto the unit itself, unless it has been agreed in the extent and limitations to stop at isolators.
I don't know that I&Ting appliances, would really fall within the remit of BS7671.
I guess it again depends on what has been agreed in the extent and limitations.

why wold you want to do a PORTABLE APPLIANCE TEST on a FIXED bit of equipment?

by all means make sure it is properly connected and if required make sure its earthed but wouldnt go PAT testing it
Would you PAT test a gas boiler ? an Immerser? an oven)hard wired) ect ect

IMO the appliance and its wiring are not part of the fixed wiring and i would test up to the isolator/FCU as normal.

I always test immersion heaters on a PIR as water heaters are covered in bs 7671.

As to fixed appliances when PAT testing, if you don't test them, who does & when?

Hi tele, even if the wiring from the isolator/FCU to the appliance is buried?
i would do a visual and a LN/E IR test if requested (as long as client was prepared to pay extra cost, of course).
