just wasted a full day driving round bradford looking for a left hand threaded bolt for a dewalt mitre saw. i'd have had more chance of winning the euromillions. why are these things so hard to get hold of???

off to leeds first thing tomorrow.....there's a place that sells them over there, but if i order it over the phone there's a surcharge that amounts to 15x the price of the bolt.....?????????

world's gone mad.

bet you could find it on t'web. google or evilbay. search de walt parts.

Dunno where they've gone. Never realised we had any .... this is the very first left-handed thread I've ever seen on this forum.

what you need is the pitch, threadform and the O/D....once you have that then you will be able to get left hand threadforms from the local engineering supplies...

Quite right Glen.

Single-point screw cutting on a centre lathe was my speciality in a previous life.

why not just order the exact dewalt component from a online tool repair merchants ?or is that too radical thinking ?;-)

theres an engineerng supplies near to me..(you know bearings, oillite bushings and dowty seals n all, that lot)...so if you can get the O/D then i will get a L/H thread bolt..
I will need to know the O/D and the length...i reckon it will be a metric coarse...

place that has 'em is on geldard rd. can't remember the name off hand. gonna get over there first thing.

im assuming the old bolt is lost ?
therefore you dont know the length , diameter , thread ?
in which case youre screwed without the part no.

not lost - just knackered. the prize-wit that i'm working with couldn't understand why he couldn't loosen it the traditional way (righty tighty/lefty loosey) and he just kept tightening it until it snapped.

so...how have you managed to get the old bolt out?
was there enough on it to get some grips on it to wind it out?

the pillock that i work with tried allen keys, alligator pump pliers and mole grips to get the bolt out. when they all failed, he used an angle grinder to put a flat surface on the bolt head (which was round for some reason) and then set about it with the stilsons.

this snapped the head straight off and broke a couple of the threads on the bolt. luckily it just twisted straight out - clockwise of course.

Going on shaggies name and picture, I'm thinking West coast movie star, the ones she doesn't like me watching.
Never get any complaints about the techniques I pick up though.

if only, archy, if only.

i don't think i'd get many photo opportunities, judging by the reactions i was getting around bradford today, when i was showing everyone my one inch bolt.
