Hi all,

I have been asked to issue a certificate for 2 smoke alarms and a heat alarm that are connected via wireless bases (brk 700 series) which have already been installed by the client.

I have never done this before but need to do so for building control as doors have been removed, hence the requirement.

I was going to use the online niceic certification program but this seems to be a much more complex form than the online version such as; https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&s...kT9r0G7A99sNWtPJw&sig2=KcLfJg7CBPkMpNwWEdn0oA

Is the link OK to use and do I also need to issue a minor works certificate?

Many thanks in advance.

So, I have been asked to certificate them for building control. As I understand it, to install these brk 700 series alarms is deemed as non notifiable. And something a home owner can do. What they can't do is issue a certificate for them?

Apologies if this is a silly question and thanks for your help.

It's a standard 3 bed semi with a ground floor, 1st floor and a loft (not living space). I am assuming the installation of the 3 alarms would not be notifiable as the circuit is pre existing and the protective device is not changing?

Hi - looking at the suggested cert on the link it supports Westward's guidance :
"The signatory of the Certificate should sign only as confirmation that the work, for which they have been responsible, complies with the relevant recommendations of bs 5839-6:2004. "

Hi - once there is a loft it triggers more fire safety requirements in blg regs. And this is usually seen in having to add fire doors to secure the access stairway for exit. It may be there's an exemption from fire doors if you add smoke and heat alarms in all the rooms instead. If that is the case here, it's no wonder the LBC want a certificate of compliance for the alarms.
