a friend, who used to be an electrician before he joined the fire service has had an extension built which, after using my regs books he wired himself. I've seen it during the first fix and no problems. The thing is that now he needs a certificate for the building inspector (obviously I hear you say) which I can do but I am wondering if its a periodic inspection cert or the installation one with three signatures. Any help gratefully received.

it needs an installation cert. if you are happy with it, and feel able to sign it off, it's your call, but if there is any comebacks, your signature is on the cert.

Depends on the LABC.

I have had a similar instance where a friend of a friend did some work and needed it signing off. I just put the ball in their court and got them to ring the LABC who basically said that a PIR of the new installation would suffice.
