If you cannot afford Hilti which is the daddy, try the Bosch GBH36V-LI which is his younger, better looking cousin.

Probably for a lot of us its not a case of not affording it but there so many theiving t***ers about
To be fair mate, I don't think thieves will be choosy between Bosch or Hilti!!!

I got my Bosch with 2 x 2.6ah Batteries and a load of bits thrown in for £430 inc VAT, I got a quote of nearly £700 plus VAT for the Hilti.

that was the worst thing working on site with other trades about. not knowing if the box would be as full when you got back to it. no van outside to leave it locked up in, but saying that then you have the scrotes on the street walking around. when we did a major night club re-fit I put first dabs on a cupboard and hasped it. not a thing went walkies that time

luckly enough i don`t have that problem any more. tools on site at the moment tends to be a pen. worth bearing in mind for when i go back on the re-fits thank you

The OP will come back on here and tell us his budget is £50;), think we've run with this :D. Though secretly hoping he has a huge budget :)

i remember an in law telling me i was stupid for spending 300+ quid on a drill before. take a look at this one i got from b&q for 30 quid and it`s more powerful than your`s. tell you what if i could get a drill for thirty quid that did the job i needed it for all well and good.think i will stick to my models though somehow

I am still toying with the idea of buying a Hilti TE 7-A but am struggling to find a way to hate the Bosch. Might put it on eBay and see what I can get towards the Hilti.

It's all your fault Pennywise, after seeing all those shiney red boxes in your van, my bluey green ones look so pathetic :o
Does anyone know where to get the best price or am I stuck with my quote from Hilti?

I had a go with a plumbers a few weeks ago and it does seem to be very controlled. I always thought they were just overpriced by being exclusive but now really want one. He had a load of Hilti stuff on a service agreement which seemed great.... until I worked out how much he paid a year.

I can't really put my finger on what was better, but compared to my bosch, it just seemed better.

Sorry m8, but once you start you can't stop collecting those red boxes :D, as for the TE 7-A I thought about getting it when I was buying the TE 6-A think it worked out about £100 more but couldn't really justify it as I didn't think a chisel function was worth having as would get through batteries too quickly. If I were you I would wait for an elex show near you, when I went to the one at sandown they had the TE 7-A on a show special think it worked out at £499 with one battery plus the Vat, One bit of advice at the elex shows when having a look around the stand try and spot the manager who usually isn't wearing uniform, they have the ultimate say with what discount you can get and they have the power to change the show specials etc, I got a TE 7-A battery for £100 including the Vat didn't need it but thought at that price I would :D

Ask the seller on ebay what the serial numbers are so you can cross reference it with Hilti and their details which will confirm its true owner.

i got some good bargains at the end of the last day of the elex everyone wants to shift that bit more and don`t want to have to load it back onto the van.

We have a Bosch 24v SDS with 2 x 2.0Ah NiCd batteries charger and case for £275 inc vat and UK Mainland dekivery
Will throw in a West voltage detector stick for anyone off the forum.

Weve tried,Dewalt,Bosch,Panasonic and Makita but Hilti out lasts the lot. The only trouble is we have had them nicked several times out the back of the van whilst at work, so fed up buying brand new as they are silly money. For us the best way to buy them is in sections, we normally get the body from Ebay in the US and even with the postage it still works out a lot cheaper and then buy a charger and batteries from Ebay in the UK. You could be lucky and get the whole lot here at a good price.

Example:

HILTI 36V CORDLESS ROTARY HAMMER DRILL TE 6-A BODY - eBay (item 330412560734 end time Jul-08-10 00:54:44 PDT)

i have a Dewalt 24v which was not my preferred choice but was in urgent need on a weekend job, it was the only one in the last wholesalers that was open for the day.
I gotta say it has been ok, the batts are a bit ragged after 6 years, but i would still prefer the Makita, although Milwaukee is now my first choice.

im working on a site at the mo and there very big on hand vibration so i would check out wich you can use the longest so you dont get to meant points and i think your only aloud about 130 pionts a day i think the bosh was the best for that

As mentioned before, Bosch 36v. Awesome tool. Brutal as a 30 stone prison inmate who hasn't seen a woman in 5 years but, with practice, delicate enough to take the top off a hard boiled egg. OK, that bit's not true, but it is a solid, powerful bit of kit.

Pure poetry man. Best description of an SDS drill I've heard yet:)

Its got to be Hilti. You could try their anti-theft system where they link the drill to a keycard and if you dont swipe the card over the drill it wont work. Then if the thief takes it in to get fixed Hilti phone you up and ask if its been stolen. Ok they can still take it but theyll never be able to use it. Also the aftercare is first class. You get a maximum repair cost as well, which came in handy when i set mine on fire. 7 years old now and still gets used everyday.
