Im confused on which detecter to use. Basically if i leave the gas cooker on with the flame ignited by mistake and i leave the kitchen. I need something to let me know that ive left it on.

i heard about carbon monoxide detector but does that detect when the flame is on as well as when the flame is off

only reason is because one night i went to kitchen and i saw the flame on minimum. Someone left it on by mistake and didnt see it as i was on lowest setting. I was thinking if i didnt go down it would of been on all night.

although leaving it on might cost you a few pennies it won't actually do any harm unless there is something left on the hob above it - in which case a normal smoke detector would do.

Carbon monoxide is the gas let of when fuels are burnt ,, as for gas alarms , i did make one from a kit i think it was a vellaman kit ,my late grandmother used to leave her gas on so i made this worked a treat ,there is a possibility that these alarms are made for caravans and boats where gas is used thought there was Caravan, Motorhome and Boat Gas Alarms

Carbon dioxide is one of the products of normal combustion of gas (along with water vapour)and is not poisonous, carbon monoxide is from incomplete combustion where there is a shortage of oxygen and is extremely dangerous. You would not get carbon monoxide being produced from a gas ring on the hob. The more usual place for CO is a boiler, where there can easily be restricted air flow.
