Evening everyone
Am currently viewing megger multifunction testers on ebay with prices ranging from £199 to £385 all second hand, which is the best to buy and why from these;
megger mft 1502/2
megger mft 1552
megger mft 1500
megger mft 1553
any help regarding the above would be greatly appriciated, wouldnt like to fork out the huge expense on something that isnt much cop. Also where can new megger be purchased and how much
thanks lads

1552. every time.robust and easy to use. mine came from ebay. was well cheap.you can usually tell if a seller is genuine. pay with paypal. got it calibrated was spot on.

agree with Tel, 1552, the 1553 has an extra bell and whistle but it's not alot of use to me. I still use a quill and ink container to do my certs. I am technology phobic and to be honest see that kind of stuff (blue tooth downloading etc etc) as only any real use if you r doing 100 certs a month. I do 8 a year if I am lucky and the kids / missus let me out the house to do some work instead of nappies. I need bluetooth nappies not certs.

The 1552 was a big step up from the 1502 because of the auto RCD testing, its a big time saver if you work alone.

Mine is an 'old hat' 1651, I bought it second hand but new in packets for less than £200.00, the only problems I have with it are 1. When batteries get low it gives bizzare readings. 2. No auto RCD (Keeps me fit!!!) 3. No ramp RCD.

2 and 3 are on your chosen model

Mine has been dropped off ladders, stored in a freezing van and generally abused, I will buy another.

Thanks lads for all your help, i,ll also just say this is a fantastic forum which is very informative and friendly, everytime ive ask a question ive always had a cracking response so thanks again

For me there are only two MFTs: Megger and the Metrel. You either have the cash or you don't. And at the time of purchasing mine I didn't so no guessing what I ended up with! I would like to buy the latest Megger but I always delay purchase of the latest stuff until there are enough reviews to assure me. Likewise I've heard problems with the bluetooth links with the 1553 and hence will avoid that one. Keen on the latest 1730 but will wait out a little while the pennybox picks up a few kilos!

I have a 1552 and thoroughly recommend it.

My only issue with buying from eBay is that there are stolen meters on there. Try to buy from a genuine seller - ask about the 'pedigree' of the meter. After purchase check with Megger that it's not registered on their stolen list.

I use the megger 1552. Great bit of kit. Very reliable but can chew batteries and does not like rechargeables so carry spare batteries. I would not go with the Bluetooth option since it is too inflexible for me.
