Hi jaysparx,

I'm in Leeds and my mate and me went over to Bamber Bridge (Bolton way!!) to do our EAL with Tony at Delta.

Since first going over to him to do this we've built a large electrical business, both me and Paul (my business partner) are now NVQ3, JIB gold card holders and part P approved as well as being approved contractors.

We started out as plasterers, but Delta set us on the road to electricianism, so if you get the chance to go with Tony's company I'd do it. He's friendly, helpful and shows you how to do it without the crap you find at college. He also puts on a decent spread of sarnies for lunch!

Hope that helps you make your mind up.

Good luck with it, whatever you decide to do and cheers to you too Tony.

Daz & Paul (ex-plasteres from Leeds)

Sorry to go of at a slight tangent but i've just lifted this quote from the Delta website forum.

Quote from City and Guilds :- “From September 2010 the 2357 City & Guilds Diploma in Electrotechnology (working title) will be available on the QCF, replacing the existing qualifications. Development is well underway and we are working with centres and industry to design a qualification which meets your needs.”
This means that the NVQ and the 2330 will be combined, and therefore working electricians who do not have full qualifications will not be able to get an NVQ as the NVQ will no longer exist.

What does this mean for old nackers like me thinking of doing the NVQ3 for a JIB card? Does it mean do it quick or else, or is it being replaced with 2357 (whatever this is) What is the 'QCF' ?

Anybody know?

I was talking to a mate of mine who assesses the electrical NVQ and he says that if someone has started it when it comes in then they should be able to carry on with the original one as City & Guilds aren't allowed to move the goal posts half way through something with regards costs to the student.

But, I also spoke to another bloke who assesses NVQ's and he says that even City & Guild dont know what they intend to do yet!

They might both be wrong or they might both be right... Who knows???

If I was you I'd just get on with it and do it as fast as you can before the change over, that way you'll have it easier, ... a bit like the old driving test before all this extra rubbish!!

One thing I would do though, and I'm not trying to sell anyone's service, is use Delta (Tony), I used a local college for my NVQ3 and it was a right pain in the arse, they made me have an interview before I started and it was clear that I knew more than the lad who was assessing me, a professional discussion, 3 site visits and even watched over me as I did a test.. worse than my 2391 any day!.. I was going to use Tony at Delta after I'd finished my EAL Domestic thing for the building regs, but the offer of a feebie from a sponser proved too much to miss out on, otherwise I'd have used Delta without a second thought.

Thanks for the info Daz.

I've been meaning to do the NVQ3 for ages and ages but never got round to it.

I got C & G 2360 parts 1 + 2 plus 16th ed,then 17th update all through college as I missed the apprentice route. So i just did them myself at college when i was bit older.I'm down to do the 2391 next time it comes up as well, possibly January i think.

I'll try and fit in 2356 or (whatever it's called by the time i come to do it) very soon hopefully.

It's been a long and windy road and just when i think i can see the winning post, somebody moves it.

Hi

I'd try Delta Electrical Training Ltd

I did my EAL with them, he's called Tony and he'll sort you out if you get in touch and ask for him.

Hope this helps:)
