Forgive my naivety , a week a Monday I am doing my part p (don’tworry I know your opinions on this lol)
I have read my pre-course litterateur and have come to theconclusion that as well as my multi meter , which I currently use for faultfinding on boilers – yes im from the dark side. GAS, that I need a voltagedetector to prove safe before starting but would my current multi – meter notbe suitable for both ?

Thanks prince and princess

Minimum for testing- Continuity/insulation resistance and loop impedance/RCD instruments. Or multfunction tester to carry out all tests. Good voltage tester also recommended.

A voltage tester should be a contact voltage tester that does not need any settings to display the voltage, it should also comply with GS38.
The idea is that there can be no confusion when testing, if you have to select settings you may get a range wrong, if you do not touch the conductors it is very variable. Test on a known source or proving unit test on the equipment and then test again on a known source or proving unit.

part p defiened scope electrical competence scheme , yes

there are two reasons well maybe 3 if you wish to know them

firstly 85 % of boiler faults are electrical , secondly i want to improve my own knowledge and understanding and thirdly my sparky doesnt like travelling to the other end of the country to do an hours work lol

You will not learn about boiler faults in that course. it would be lighting circuits and ring mains.
You would be much better off spending your money on this Brian Scaddan electrical Installation.

Or maybe this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Electric-Wi...=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1331977233&sr=1-1
