Currently in the Armed Forces and am due to leave in 2013, so am now in my 2 year resettlement period. I have toyed with the idea of becoming an Electrician for years now, looked over all different websites, spoke to friends who are in the Trade. The apprentice route is certainly not for me, I do however have access to monies and time, all part of my resettlement package.

I know many people do not agree with these fast rack courses putting cowboy sparkies straight on the street, now I will take part in a intensive course to gain the relevant qualifications however will also (try) find experience with a local electrician for experience.

So here is my question:

What qualification should i take, the full package type, to be a fully qualified (on paper) as i can be?

Thanks in advance

My advise would be, if the MOD are paying and you have the time, do every course you can.

It might be the difference between you getting a job over someone else because you have the one extra qualification.
Once they're done, no-one can take them away from you.

Anyone got any further input on what course i should take. Don't want to necessarily call a course provider on the possiblity of them trying just to sell me thier 'product'.Tnaks in advance again

mmm, stacker eh?, afraid i'm not going to be of much use as i went from aircraft maintenance to factory maintenance, but the courses at aldershot i was going to suggest wouldnt even make sense to you, what you have got on your side is time. what about a level 3 electrical engineering course at a local college? probably take 2 years to complete but at the end of year 1 you could go to aldershot and do 17th edition wiring regs, PAT testing etc and understand and pass.
dont know what it was like when you joined the RAF but i had to do an aptitude test to find what trades suited me and mechanical and electrical topped the list (with no prior knowledge whatsoever), i mention this because if you havnt got a natural aptitude for this you may struggle with a 5 week wonder course.
good luck anyhow mate.
