I am changing a shower over this weekend and just trying to workout what test i need to do.
I have worked out that I need to do the following
Earth Continuity from cu to shower switch then to shower
500v Insulation resistance test bypassing the neon in the shower switch
L to N
L to E
N to E
Polarity
Is it also worth doing a rcd test.
Have i missed anything

You need to do the R1 & R2 test followed by an IR test L to CPC N to CPC joint the L and N together and test between the cpc you need to do it this way as youll have neons in circuit plus the shower which will give incorrect readings ,be carefull doing this at 500 volts if its a micro processor controlled shower , then you need to do the Zs and RCD tests ,RCD ,push the button x1 and x 5 the polarity will be confirmed twice once when doing the R1 & R2 and again when doing the Zs

Don't forget to do your Zs Tests. Is the shower a like for like change as if its a higher W shower then you will need to make sure that the cables and protective devices are correctly selected.

should be fine. final test to be done is test for hot water, should come out of that funny looking rose on a snake.LOL.

If you not altering the existing cable or protection device then you really don't have to do any testing as such. If your going to issue a MEIWC then you will have to do all the tests highlighted on them.

IMO I would always issue a MEIWC so therefore do all the tests, if your not use to testing it's a great way to practice.

I aways test even if im not altering the wiring as it the only way i can be sure that the wiring is correct and safe you could have a broken earth or loose connections in the switch so checking and testing is the way to confirm this

First things first you have satisfy your self that that the KW of the shower and the cable have been corrctly matched so many times a customer has phoned me to ask can I change a shower only to find its a 10KW and the cable is 6mm
