Hi, Not technical related but something we all need to consider at some point! I currently drive a vito box van and have done for several years! What vehicles do you guys use for business as I'm considering moving away from the van to a big 4x4 (Nissan pathfinder or Isuzu probably) I'm after the 5+ seats you see and the vito only has 3. Do any of you guys use anything other than a van? After advice on the practicalities of going from a van to a big car??? Thanks in advance!

I bought a new Ranger Limited in September. Had it fitted with a Pegasus Hardtop, and a sliding loadbed. Extras were Satnav, reversing camera ( a must have!), tow bar. I do 1000 miles/week, quite a bit of "rural" ( other side of a field!). It's so comfortable, I can leave home at 0500, drive 3 hrs to site work 10+ hours and drive home, no stiff hips, knees. I wanted 5 seats, as I didn't want a van + car, couldn't find a van comfortable enough that I thought would last 150,000 over 4 years. I also think it has more presence than the other 4wds! I'm trying to post a pic, but computer says no!!

Thanks a lot Jeremy much appreciate your info! That's another good looking 4x4 so my questions are: what sort of mpg do u get? Also how do u find the space in the back? I have a vito at the moment so carry everything with me (always) so I'm sure I'll have to "tidy" up abit but do u still find their roomy enough for all of your gear? Did you used to have a van? If so how was the transition from van to car? Cheers pal appreciate your response!

If you want a serious 4x4 then there's the great British landrover, nothing can compete.

only ever had a transporter van and loved it... Has to be white so you can drive it like its stolen on a friday down the M5.

Nah…a Landrover is a hair-dresser-mobile. You can’t beat a Toyota FJ cruiser.:)
Land Rover defender had one in the good old days definitely not a hairdressers mobile, got lots of kit in it and it was great fun at the weekends, shame I rolled it, loved it miss it will get anther one day when the wife lets me

When I grow up, I would like a Bowler Wildcat. If Mrs K really loved me, she would buy me one for Christmas.:)

I reckon the Bowler EXR-S would knock off 5 hours of your daily commute.

Last time I saw a defender rolled we just pushed it back onto its wheels and carried on!

I think you're confusing the defender with the freelander!
Yeah… it was the Freelander I was thinking of. Them and the Nissan Pathfinders and Isuzu‘s have hair dryers in the glove compartment as standard.

dream machine.......till it breaks down.
I heard that Mercedes have launched a hydrogen powered 4x4 called the Hindenburg and it is expected to give the German car manufacturer a massive boom.

I won't have a bad word said against the freelander! It's my vehicle of choice in the spring when 4x4s get cheaper again.

Ill agree with you there. I had a 15 plate HSE lux as a hire car a little while back. Never driven a car so comfortable. Did 350 miles in one day and got out at the other end feeling like i could happily do the same again. And they are so bloody cheap second hand for the class of car they fit in to!

Lovely price really for why it is, it's also a nice ride height and seating position, something I need due to my back. I'm just biding my time because they're a lot more expensive over the winter, they're a bit thirsty, but then so is my focus and so was my golf, so nothing new in that aspect! Discovery's are lovely as well but I don't like the seating position at all.

Even if it was only three hours in the first place.................:)

Lol…I read that post as a 3 hour drive to work, then a 10 hour shift and then a 3 hour drive back. Either way, a 13-16 hour day is not much of a life. I hope the Ford Ranger is comfortable and has Planet Rock on the wireless. It will make the misery a bit better to live with.

That Streit Scorpion which Tel posted up would make an awesome works vehicle but it’s a bit out of my price range. I wonder if they would let me borrow it for a year for evaluation purposes. I promise to give it a good going over.:drool5:
