[ElectriciansForums.net] White meter tariff???? is it? Hello, could anybody explain to me how this system works? and does the domestic supply switch to the cheap electricity at night too?

Thanks.

Yes the domestic (all the electric) switches to cheap at night or when the storage heater circuit is turned on...

The switch is controlled by the DNO or supply company using a "group" number which is broadcast over Radio 4.

Ah ok then and what are the other tails involved in the meter that links the two meters together?, *note* there is also another live supply coming from the Henley block into the timeswitch and also the live from the Hyrdo service head to the timeswitch???

You've got a feed that powers the RF switch - Live and Neutral for some reason there seems to be two live feeds one from the service head and another from the henley block.. I don't work for the DNO so this might be normal.

You then have the cable that links the switch to the meter and controls with dial or rate is in use.

Then obviously the other cable is the feed to the storage heater circuits.

I don't know if anyone else can shed more light?

Might be one to supply the switch and one for the feed????

Thats perfect thanks, all the metering at night for everything, is done from the last Red live on the Meter is that correct?

is this kind of system the same as Economy 7 Layout for the meters????

Yep same a Economy 7 with a radio switch instead of the timer clock... (mine used to come on night rate at 6pm!!)

And because the switch turns the meter on to night rate everything (normal feed and storage heaters) are charged at the night rate...
So yeah the last red live on the actual meter

Yea thats what i thought, there isnt much difference then really between this system layout and the Economy 7 layout then really is there?

it will be the same meter for Economy 7 then yea?

is the smaller live between the two meters, the live which tells the meter to start measuring for night rate yea?

what does the smaller live cable do between the two meters?

I think that on this set-up the whole house benefits from the cheap electricity at night because there is only 1 live feed coming out the meter correct????

live from henley block to tele switch is for the off-peak load which is switched by the tele switch.
live + neutral from cut-out to tele switch is for switching of the tele switch which also switches the meter (via the red link between meter and tele switch) to off peak
there is an arrow to the right of the two dials on the meter which tells you what the current rate is (the red link changes this arrow) hope this makes sense
