Hi everybody.

Much unclear this sponsor thing for the ECS trainee card is.

I have done all required for the ECS adult trainee card.

I have done and passed my H&S exam. I am currently on my last "second" year of my level 3 in electrical installations.

Having been around to a few construction sites, I am told I need an ECS trainee card or I am not allowed on site let alone to work, to get hands on experience, next to a fully qualified electrician.

A bit of catch 22 here.

Not even ECS themselves were clear on this sponsor thing.

In the end, who can be a sponsor? My grandmother, for all I know, could be a sponsor.

Any help in this issue is well and truly appreciated.

Regards,
Albert

get a cscs labourer card, most of the time enough to get you on a building site.

I was told that but then I was also told I won't be able or allowed to work with an electrician without an ECS trainee card.

Again, catch 22.

You are correct. CSCS labourer card will allow me site access but not to work with an electrician, or so they say.

You can get a teacher, a doctor, a postmaster or a person you have worked for such as a MD of a company you have carried work out for
They are basically signing your application and Photo to say its you and also if you was say applying for a Approved Electrician Gold card then you would need someone who would sign to say you had carried out this type of work

The ECS are hard work at explaining whats required

All you do is, do the ECS test (which costs about ÂŁ30), when you pass, send all the info in together with your other qualifications. Then you will be issued a ECS card (a labourer if you dont have NVQ3) with all your quals listed on the back of it. That should be enough to let someone know you know about electric. I went to the JIB offices the other day and the secretary told me just that, nothing whatsoever about a signature.

Alternatively (no ill will meant by this) you could learn another trade, save alot of money, probably get paid more, and not have the constant ball ache of being told you need to go back to college to do another course because the one you have is outdated

I have a cscs labourers card am I'm allowed to work on a rather strict site. I'm just waiting to complete nvq to apply for ecs.
Just blag the sponsor like I did for cscs, they'll never check anyway. But do it to a relatives address just on the off chance that they will!

The hardest bit is getting someone else to do it for you - the implication is that they're offering to vouch for your qualifications, so a lot of people seem to think you're asking them to sign their life away.
The reality is even if you do it online all they have to do is click 'accept' and that's as far as it goes.

So yes, your grandmother could sign it for you, if she's willing to.
