Q

As we have been doing mainly up to 50kw systems we just commission them etc ourselves and them certificated.

However what about >50kw systems?

I know they arent covered under MCS and we need them commissioned then the report sent over to ROOFIT for accreditation.

Anyone know of who does the commissioning for big systems?

Or can we still do the commissioning as MCS but just obviously without the MCS certification, and send our report to ROOFIT?

Someone actually picked up the phone at Ofgem and informed me its the DNO that does the commissioning.

Applying for ROO-FIT accreditation
1. Set up an account on the Renewables and CHP Register.

  • Click on the word "Register". This will prompt you to answer several questions about your organisation. Please keep a note of the user name and the account name as you will need this information at a later date
  • If you are registering as a company, we will require a letter of authorisation in order to approve your account. Please complete this on company-headed paper, scan and email back to Ofgem in the required template format
  • A password will be issued as soon as the account has been approved
  • We have produced an Application for Accreditation FAQ document to help guide you through the application process

2. Initiate an application for accreditation using the “Apply for new accreditation” function under the “Accreditation” tab.

  • Provide full and accurate answers to the questions you are asked
  • Upload, post or fax documentation as requested
  • “Send” the application to the account SuperUser so they can make the relevant declarations
  • Make the relevant declarations

3. Once you have sent your application and submitted the declarations, Ofgem will receive the application (see below for implications on the "eligibility date").

4. The application is reviewed using a three stage checking process.

5. Ofgem will confirm ROO-FIT accreditation by email.

Further guidance on the ROO-FIT process is available in the Feed-in Tariff: Guidance for renewable installations.

It is not the individual or installer that is ROO-FIT accredited it is the installation.

The commissioning will depend upon the equipment used / how it is connected.

Generally on larger these systems the DNO will require on site witness testing and proving of the G59 relays.

The equipment to do that testing requires a significant investment, so most people will use a specialist G59 test house to set up the relays and test it all before then attending and doing the witness test with the DNO.

You can of course attend a G59 course and learn how to do this yourselfm the question is how often will you use that knowledge, it is oftem better just to hire the experts that way you wont have to pay for two sets of witness testing -( those charges are usually higher that the cost of the expert :) ) These guys are experts in this area and have done many tests, they also make G59 relay control panels - http://www.g59-test.co.uk/ If you need the relays and or someone else to test then you could also give Andu O'Leary a call at Sibert G59 Relay Unit Enclosures - Sibert - automated equipment manufacturer and supplier of process consumables
