Hi guys,

I'm looking at getting started in the industry. Planning on getting myself on a course in a few months when I have some time off my current job, but have started a bit of background reading in the meantime. Done a bit of DIY electrical work before and know the basics, so thought I'd start off with the IEE Guide to Building Regs for Electricians and the IEE On Site Guide to 17th Edition Regs.

I'm getting on pretty well with the books, have learnt a load of things I never even thought about in the past. However, been having trouble with some of the terminology used. It's stuff which I'm guessing is pretty every day for even a new apprentice, but unknown to me as a DIY'er.

For example, today I was reading up on circuit specifications and there was lots of mention of "Final Ring Circuits" and "Final Radial Circuits". Now I know what a ring circuit is, and what a radial circuit is, but a "final" circuit? That's a new one to me!

Can anyone recommend an "Idiots Guide" sort of thing which I can use to refer to when I find a term I don't know? I'm sure once I start a course I'll pick this sort of thing up from the tutors, but it would be great to learn a bit more in the meantime!

Final circuit.A circuit connected directly to current using equipment,or to a socket outlet or socket outlets or other outlet points for the connection of such equipment

That is a quote from The IEE wiring regulations book

There is a chapter headed Deifinitions where these sort of answers are found
The book is a must for anyone interested in installation

Thanks for that Des 56! Who needs a book when I've got this forum!

Is the IEE Wiring Regs book the one which is ÂŁ60-ÂŁ70 online? If it is, I didn't get it because the price seemed a bit steep, but maybe I'll have to splash out... Unless anyone can point me towards a cheap place to buy it. :)
