What order would you place our governing body's in , this is how i see them with the best at the top -

For commercial contracting .
ECA
NICIEC

For house bashing .
NICIEC
ELECSA
NAPIT
I cant think of any others at the moment ?

Maybe one of the mods could make a poll up , with one for sparks and one for visiting customers !?

As far as i can see from your LIST, you haven't mentioned a single governing body, only scheme providers!! Now if you are under the impression that these providers are governing bodies, then you are very much mistaken!! Though one or two of them sometimes Act as if they are and maybe even Think that they are !!! ...lol!!!

I stand corrected , i had not worded it quite as well as i could have .
But having said that , surely the ECA raises above the standard , if you discount ELECSA that is !

As Engineer 54 said their all scam providers (whoops scheme providers) all bent and don't give a ---- just give me your money.

It shows in the way they let Electrical Trainee with no proper training join who don't know what they are doing.

When it comes to large commercial/industry I remember a NICEIC bloke come to the site to carry out an audit where I was doing I & T, said the NICEIC test sheets was not designed for that type of site as it had it's own HV network supplying a LV network.

Ian, this is something that’s always puzzled me since joining the board. How do you do an inspection and testing report on a plant that is running 24/7/365? The things that are most likely to cause the major problems you can’t turn off. OK lighting and ancillary stuff can be worked around.

I will say that non of the plants I’ve worked on ever had an external company in to do any testing other than the protection side of our MV network. That used to cause mayhem. Under M&Q regs every circuits earthing had to be tested every 6 months, but that would be done with a 70mm² wander lead and the good old Ductor. Believe me 300M of 70mm² is bloody heavy to maul around the place.

To do any tests on the conductors is impossible. OK during plant commissioning the tests would be done but after that there’s no chance.

Tony,
Lucky enough it was not a 24/7/365 plant so it had to be arranged when no production was taking place but I know where your coming from as a lot of insurance company are now insisting that I & T takes place or their premiums go through the roof.

This is where the modern thermal imaging equipment really pays for itself in industry, especially in continuous production/process industries. Trouble is, you need training and more importantly experience, to read/diagnose what the imagery is showing you.

Modern industrial factories with such continuous processes have IR modules incorporated to give warnings of potential circuit insulation breaking down, but your not going to find them, in most of the older established factories unless they have been fairly recently updated....
