Guys,

I'm doing some work in a small 5 storey office block in London and the client has asked me about getting a fire alarm fitted, but he would like to know if he only has to get the common areas done or the whole premises including the offices.

I imagine he can have whatever he wants and that its up to my subbie to decide if what he wants needs to be installed at L2 or L3 or whatever?

I'm just wary of advising that he just get the common areas done and later down the line some form of building control want to know why the complete property didn't get done.

Any advice fella's?

Now that the fire certificate has (quite wrongly) been got rid of and self done risk assessments brought in I think that the regulations mainly cover shared access / fire escape routes. There will be other factors that may impinge on this, such as any specialist requirements based on the nature of the buiseness or the people working in the offices.

If you have been asked to design the system then it is patially down to you to do the risk assessment, leaving you liable.

I would get a written spec. off the customer stating thats what they want and is what they feel is adaquate for the premises.
