I have being dealing with some Estate Agents this weeks in the process off selling my house and the difference in values and prices is amazing. Not to mention the tales of how many houses they sold last month.;)
One told me she had sold 27 houses last month and a rival told me that was lies and she had only sold 15. Who is telling the truth? That is something I will never know.
I had one in today and he spoke lies the minute he walked in the door.He also was very slimy and reminded me off a used car salesman I encountered a few years ago(another born lier).
What I don't get is they must know you can tell their lying but carry on anyway in the hope that you use them.
The woman yesterday told me she could tell the surveyor how much to value the house at.
I have seen the programs on TV about them over the years and the programs are right. It is a profession with no morals or honor.
What I was thinking was who would tell tell the most lies in an average working day?
1 Estate Agent
2 Used cas salesman
3 The agency people you phone up for work and tell you that there is alot just about to start the following week and they will phone you first.;)

my ex-wife must be in the top 10

Tony Robinson and the Time Team crew.
tony robinson,s been around a long time, since blackadder in 1500 odd. he should know what he's talking about by now.

The big chains will over value to sellers to get the instruction and then just wait for a buyer eventually. The small guys may under value with a view to getting a quick turnover, especially if they have their backs against the wall. My experience in the South if you are serious about moving, is to use an established agent who values in the middle somewhere after getting a lot of them around to see your house. If you can, see what similar properties are up at with the various agents as this will give you an indication of how they pitch things. They will all tell you what they think you want to hear, if they can without breaking too many rules on paper. At the end of the day they should be on your side if they are selling for you and sometimes you might need to remind them.

I'm looking to buy at present and it seems to me that many sellers are still living in the past a bit WRT prices and are not putting their places up for sale unless they really have to. This is making the agents job harder. I'm seeing a lot of tatty houses (I'm looking for a tatty house!!)that are not much lower in price than the better ones and most have some really fundamental problem. Houses like that do still sell, but at 10 to 20% less than the asking price and most people are not prepared to take a hit like that after the good times.

I'd rather not comment on the other two professions as I have sold the odd used car in the past and have not worked for an agency in a very long time......but I can understand why you might lump them together.

Good luck, I hope you manage to sort them out, I'm still trying............

i did a five day course on golf. still can't hit the ball.

what about electricians who fill out a EIC without testing ( made up readings)

Every factory owner or manager that tells you after you have worked on their plant, well it was doing more than that before you rewired the circuit ...........

Insurance companies who take your money and then when you claim, pull out a 27 page document on why they aren't going to .................

Large sheds that tell you delivery in 28 days arrives in 50 and something is always missing ......................

Call centres in India when you phone and complain about your delivery is 20 days to late and they tell you it is now in the warehouse and will be loaded in the next couple of days ................how on earth can they know what is the warehouse in hemel Hempstead.

Finally me as there are still a few here where I work that think I know what i'm doing

customers... " your cheque is in the post"

Bill Clinton - I did not have sexual relations with that woman

Neville Chamberlain - There will be peace in our time (just before WW2)

Tony Blair - Iraq has WMD they can launch at us in 1 hour (and a few other fibs)

phoney blair, the biggest liar since harold wilson

anyone with kids :) (Santa) etc

Come on Phil, that is only a little white lie, and doesnt harm anyone. besides when you take you kids to see Santa he usually has a nice goodlooking helper, so kids are happy and so are you.

I have to agree with telectrix and that politicians have to be the main culprits.

:D the helper certainly was good looking :)

Car mechanics when you go in for a small fault and come out with a £300 bill for the 6 hours they spent on your car.

Double glazing salesman

Door to door gas and electricity companies that try to pretend to read your meter to get into your house. I always rip them to shreds.

Travel agents. "beautiful, peaceful, top hotel and only 5 minutes from the beach". Yeh if your in a sports car. Peaceful except for the building site next door. Top hotel when? 1943 when the ----'s used it for a head office!

Property landlords. "do this job cheaper and I'll give you all my houses to maintain".

Late night tv shopping channels. "ive lost 8 stone in 3 weeks by using the piece of plastic to do sit ups, and only for £150+ £20 p&p."

"earn £50k + per year and become a plumber"

take a look at this rubbish then
" £52,000 a year is not unusual for brickies, while electricians and plumbers may command even more. Last year, jobs for electricians to work on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link paying £75,000 a year were advertised. Indeed, such is the allure of well-remunerated manual labour that there is at least one case of an Oxford graduate swapping her mortarboard for a blowtorch."

if anyone has any leads for the 75k a year jobs pass them my way :D i reckon we could just about survive on that

Door to door salesmen, Estate agents, recruitment consultants... They're all basically salesmen who will say whatever it takes to get you to sign on the dotted line, then clearing up the lies afterwards is someone else's problem. Far from being frowned upon these kinds of lies, or "salesmanship" is actually revered in the industry; bosses don't want an honest, upfront salesman they want a "hungry shark" who is "target driven" and "motivated", and other such nonsense like you might hear on 'The Apprentice.'
I suppose if anything estate agents are the worst because all they really do is match buyers to sellers and charge a fortune for it - at least recruitment consultants have to go out and find jobs to match up to candidates.

I get my MOT done at the bus garage which takes under an hour so i'd forgotten about garages. Yes £25 for an MOT, sure. You leave your vehicle there at 8am, then go to pick it up at 5pm and they're all like "sorry mate it's failed on the brakes, they could be dangerous". Obviously you need your vehicle back asap (it's still up on the lift with no wheels on it) so you ask them to fix it. £300 for something you suspect didn't need doing in the first place. At least you get a free retest though.

In my experience, any salesperson from a company that does not have a sound business model which stands up to scrutiny, or that really cares about giving the client what they actually need to satisfy their requirements

Plumbers. I will be there on Tuesday, but they tend to forget to tell you which Tuesday, so you wait in all day for no one to turn up.
MP's they are all just lying barstewards.
Most people on benefits.
Callcentre phone operators in India, who say with a heavy indian accent that they are called Ralph. I would be very surprised if there has ever been an Indian christened RALPH.
The call centre operator who answered the phone in India when i rang East Coast mainline to book a train from Leeds to Kings Cross a few years ago "I am sorry sir, there is no direct service". When I know for a fact there is an hourly direct service even at weekends.
