Hi everyone

I work for an electrical company, mainly kitchens, CU changes, rewires etc. I test and write the NICEIC certs, the office QS's them and I have no further involvement or knowledge of what happens after.

I've just changed my own CU at my house, my office is happy to QS, but I've never been on this side of the paperwork. Do I have to send anything to building control? Who and what do I send to my insurers? What am I expecting back in terms of official documents from NICEIC, I've heard it's important for resale etc. I've never seen an official document

Your company should be able to provide you with a completed EIC, signed by the QS.
If certificate is compiled on NICEIC website there is a tick box to enable online notification to building control and distribution selected (email, post etc)
If not, it can still be notified through the NIC website and a PDF copy printed off.
If it hasn't been notified you can use the certificate to notify LABC yourself but beware there is a time limit.

Thanks for replying, so I just make sure I get a copy of the EIC. And trust everyone else notifies each other with no further effort, brilliant.

Does building control actually exist? and keeps records of everywhere in a massive filing cabinet, or is this mostly a tick box exercise so everyone's back is covered

In an ideal world yes, you'll get copies of EIC & Part P, but if not forthcoming, you might have to ask for them!

Building control exists but records are on the cloud (digitally stored) somewhere!

And that is why LABCs really dislike the non-CPS trying to persuade them that their DIY rewiring can be “signed off”.
All they like is a virtual notification from NICEY, etc…
