It seems that every site now has banned stepladders, instead we have to use those bleeding podiums. I spent 1/2 hour looking for a podium today, then another 30 minutes getting a method statement/risk assesment signed for a pair of steps. Have any of you ever injured yourself on a pair of steps, (or a podium). I'm sure its some sort of conspiracy, or a goverment scheme to make our jobs last longer, thereby keeping unemployment figures down.

Rant over:D

Know what you mean mate, site i'm on at the moment, everytime you erect a scaffold,it has to be signed off and if you move it or change it you need to get it signed off again.Only place i can use ladders is in a riser and i need a permit to work

Fact of life I'm afraid lads.

On an Interserve site at the mo......bureacracy gone mad...no steps, permits for everything...it's just too much.

Perhaps we should have a survey to find the most stupid, over the top health and safety we have seen.

Mine will probably be the time we were told by the site electical/safety officer that we couldnt open the new, perfectly safe panel board that we had just installed to have a look inside 'because it might be live'.
Us- 'Thats ok, its dead, (it was locked off the other end) we've got a test lamp, we'll open it and check it to make sure'.
Them- 'You cant do that it might be live'.

There wasnt much we could say to that.

Should come to the site i'm on mate, health and safety way over the top.Kick boards in risers, warning signs that men are working in the riser above and below and tapeing off the risers above and below and a board to put in the riser so you can work safely:eek:

Domestic all the way for me !!!
Did site work and tired of getting permits to even go to the toilet !!
"Wheres your hardhat, Wheres you glasses, wheres your gloves" !!
Nice clean domestics, much better and more easier.:D
Am I the only one, or others agree ??:)

Sav :D

Ive only ever done domestic. I'd quite like to give site work and industrial work a go but I'm quite happy with domestic at the moment. The key seems to be setting down the ground rules on a written statement with the customer first and getting them to sign it. They dont often argue when you give them the bad news then, "often" being the key word though :D.
