This has probably been done before, but I'm new here and not particularly good at searching..

The company I work for use Electric Centre.. I'm pretty sure they get some good deals coz they're one of the main customers at that branch. I know that because I used to work there myself, that's how I managed to get my foot in the door with my present employer.

I guess if I ended up going out on my own then I'd go there too what with it being a bunch of old work mates, I reckon I'd hopefully get sorted out..

Or stitched up.

Who do you use, and why?

Like I say, sorry if this has been done a million times before.. please humour me.

I don't have a favourite, tend to get an address to go to, look on the internet for the location of local wholesalers then it's a question of who's got it all.

Where I live, I have equidistant from me, a CEF and Electric Center. Got royally screwed by Electric Center, called in close to closing time needed MK stuff, they charged me ÂŁ6.85+vat for twin skts. Knew it was over the top (but no choice), got even angrier when I looked on the Web... B&Q ÂŁ4.05 ScrewFix ÂŁ2.85. (both inc. vat)

Many wholesalers seem to be missing a trick (compared to their competitors) by not listing their prices, some of them only reveal them when you get to the checkout.

Even CEF, although I'm a regular customer, the discount I get varies from 80% to 0%.
I just wish they'd make their prices available and consistent so i can choose.

Phew that's better, sorry about the rant.

Firstly, i think it depends on the individual branch and their management, policies etc..

CEF are crap.
Anything a bit unusual or an item they dont stock then forget it.
They arent very helpful and just look over your shoulder at the queue of guys who want "normal" stuff.
Its just "we dont do them, next please"
On the plus side they have branches everywhere and if you need basic stuff you can find a CEF.

However, Express Electrical will go out of their way to locate unusual items and i can give them a serial number or whatever and 3 days later they will have one for me.

Edmundsons Special Lamp branch in Salford have every lamp in the universe in stock and are fantastic

I live 5mins away from a very large Newey and Eyre and they have everything i need and are reasonable at finding things for me.

Again they can be a bit like "why should i try locate something for you when theres a queue of people behind you that i can just serve"

I often find its down to the staff on the counter as well. Some cant be bothered and others can be enthusiastic and full of knowledge
