I need this clarifyiing for a college exam(actually part of a plumbing course and why teachers cannot answer this)

why can a boiler run off a ring main and not for example, a cooker or immersion..

they tell us that everything else needs a radial circuit, but why is a boiler so special?

think the issue is more like that a cooker or immersion circuit should not have a boiler or other appliance connected to it's circuit, asthese areboth heavy loads and their respective circuits have been designed for them alone.

Loads 2kw plus should be on a dedicated circuit and not on a ring, been dedicated they should only supply the load they were wired for.

A gas combi - boiler only requires electric to power the controls and is a small load so can be taken of a Ring main or Radial socket circuit is required although requires fusing down, it is preferable if possible to give the boiler its own dedicated circuit as a fault on the ring main would also lose all the heating if it was taken off the ring main.

EDIT - bigspark - beat me to the post darn!...
