Cousin asked me to get her quote reguarding house rewire so I did. Three bed house full rewire signed off etc etc £3000.
She then sends email to electrician stating his services were no longer required. (who i work for).

Just found out the FITTER at the hospital is gonna do the work and get it signed off by someone else for £2000.

Now I know I will be getting a call in about two or three weeks to start recifying but the answer will be NO.

What other problems do you see.

If you're not doing the job you won't get any problems mate. Apart from possibly family related ones maybe. If your cousin has installation problems then they are not yours

It comes back to ignorance thoughm your cousin probably knows nothing about what he/she would be getting for the £2/3000. Wouldn't you take the cheaper option in their position?

I'd be asking your "cousin" how she expects the job to go!!

Best thing with family quote is to stick about 2k on your normal price, They all think your minted anyway so you might as well give them something to talk about.

no I would not take the cheaper option because i understand like you that 80% of the time cheap is crap with cheap nasty accessories crap board and poor installation especially by a fitter who does not even hold the 17th edition.

Bet he does'nt even fit duel rcd board

or bonding or mains powered interlinked smoke alarms or enough low wattage light fittings..... need I go on??

so someones going to "sign it off" for this guy are they?....well thats the rule book outa the window for a start by someone who should know better.......it aint all about ignorance here.....some of its about a quick £150 or whatever in arse pocket for inspect and test (about 1/2-3/4 day).....

well I raised my concerns to deaf ears, taught me one thing never ever ever ever get involved with family and that will be going on my business card.

i would start by explaining to cousin that it mus t be notified to LABC and that it must be certificated by the installer, who himself must be registered, other wise it is he/she the cousin liable to a £5000 fine, and the risk of having it ripped out and reinstalled correctly at mega cost.

Na sorry Tel let them get on with it ....serves them right imo

yep....explain first then no one can feign ignorance......its their call innit.........

perhaps some folk think n all that the skills/knowledge that proper, competent, registered sparkys just fell outa the lap of the gods or summat......no actually it was all about going without whilst attending college and learning on the job from ones betters (by example)..........

But who would start the ball rolling, who would put in the initial complaint about an instal that you only suspect to be under spec unless you check it over? I feel family and electrical Sparks could fly.

I feel some pics of this guys work (first fix) posted on here by the o/p if he can get a chance would be beneficial for the forum.....lol.......

doesn't surprise me one bit.like everything now its down to price not quality, tho to be fair and sitting on a fence somewhere this fitter could be a decent house basher...tho he may not be

Never work for family or friends it will bite you in the long run , oh and never fix someone else's S**T , leave it to the "PROFESSIONAL " they got in the first place

Jamie

As a matter of principle I would refuse to do any "remedials" here if any come up. That said I've done my fair share as have most of the guys on here no doubt
