Hi all. First post here. My old LED floodlight failed and I went to replace with what I believed was the same product from screwfix. However they’ve changed the design. Instead of putting the wires into the back of the unit (which made sense) now it’s a pre made wire that hangs out meaning it needs connected up to the existing wire. I know it’s messy but I’ve attached a photo of what I’ve done. Why doesn’t this work?? The wires are definitely matching (even if the colours look wrong). It’s a solid connection on all three. Is the unit a dud?

It looks as if the stripped ends of the wires may not be pushed far enough into the crimp (shouldn't be seeing any bare copper!). The metal tube in the crimp that you crush with the tool just occupies the middle, so the wires need to be in that section to ensure continuity. And the crimping on the lamp wires looks rather near the end.
If you pull hard, does it come apart? It shouldn't 🤔!

Personally, just as a check, I would be tempted to join them with a chock block or Wago and check it all works, if you haven't already. If you know it works, borrow a proper ratchet crimp tool that does a simultaneous dual crimp of wire and insulation, and do them again. A single jaw non-ratchet tool can give very variable results!
