The room where we’re going to install a Smart TV has an existing cable jack but on the wrong side of the room. I want to convert the cable jack to an ethernet connection to where I’d attached a Wi-Fi range extender. Does my scheme make any sense? Is it at all doable? Thanks in advance for your interest and suggestions. MAC.

Yes, if I understand your terminology it sounds OK. What you call a "cable jack" is that an RJ45 wall outlet, and if you plug something into there you get Internet access? If so then you can certainly connect a wireless device to allow your TV to connect over wireless. What you need is a wireless "Access Point", that plugs into the wired network and allows wireless devices to connect. Typically a "range extender" connects by wireless as a repeater or similar.

Thanks very much for you reply and interest. Attached is a photo of the internet coax connector that I'd like hook up a wi-fi extender that has a built in female RJ45 jack. Is there an adapter or connector that will go from a male coax connector to a female RJ45? Any help you could give me would be most appreciated.

I think the problem here is that you have an f connector supplying your broadband. This cannot be directly adapted to an RJ45, but will need some sort of cable router. This could then feed a range Extender.

Thanks for your help. Don’t think my idea will work, we already have a router, too far away for a good wi-if connection, and my guess is Xfinity won’t allow two routers in one house. Again, thanks for your help and interest. Coopfab

you need to run ethernet cable between router and tv, that connector on the wall is of no use to you unless you move the cable router to it instead of where it is now. (assuming it is a cable connector not a satellite connector)

The repeaters are the small plug ins which work ok in their own right but for your solution you'll probably need to run some hard wires
