Wired Ring doorbell

In my husband’s haste to decorate our new house, he removed the old round doorbell chime that must’ve been giving power to the wired Ring doorbell! He buried the wires in the wall and filled the hole. If we get the wires back out would there be a way to reconnect them without having to fit the ugly round chime thing again? Ideally something that wouldn’t show.

Sounds like your husband was a bit too quick with the decorating. The good news is you don’t need to put the old chime back. If you can get the wires out again, you can connect them to a low-voltage transformer (usually 16–24V) to power the Ring.

There are also hidden power kits available that keep everything out of sight. Let me know if you want help finding the right kit.

If the Ring doorbell worked before, you must have a transformer somewhere. This will probably, but not necessarily, be near your consumer unit, or unusually, could be part of the old chime.
If the buried wiring has shorted out, you may have damaged the transformer, or blown a fuse in it.

Thanks John, that’s really helpful. I think we’ll have a go at that and see if there’s room to bury a power kit. Will also investigate the transformer next to our consumer unit in case we’ve blown a fuse in that too (as suggested by Brian in his reply).

You’re right, there is a transformer next to the consumer unit. Will take a look at that. Thanks
