Hi,

I am looking to make a feature lamp with 5 bulbs on flexible arms, protruding from a piece of wood. I have never wired a bulb before, so am looking for clear instructions to help me with this project. My knowledge of volts & watts is a little dim (!!!) so would really appreciate any advice in laymans terms. I have had a look online but have yet to find instructions that an amateur such as myself could clearly follow. I'd be grateful if someone could assist.

Many Thanks
Camilla

Make it and then ask an electrician to wire it for you,it's not rocket science but as you've stated you dont have a clue about electrics....at least you'd know it was safe then.

I assume the flexible arms ar metal in which case they may require an earth to be connected depending on the type of lamp holders and whether the lamps are 12 volt and fed by a transformer. I'd agree with Wirepuller that at least for the first one get an electrician to wire it safely and according to the regs. Depending what's involved you may be able to duplicate what he does to wire up your own fittings in the future.

You you I would think it best to go with the 12V lamps, as Marvo suggested above.
Give us more info on the wattage of lamps you are after and what these arms are made of. The more info the better. Then we have a better change of helping you.

"It works" and "it's safe" are not necessarily the same thing. With DIY work, they are often far from the same thing.
