Hi i have just bought a garage CU from screwfix, some 1.5mm t&e for lighting and 2 double sockets and some 6mm swa to go from the house up to my shed approx 15m from house CU I was wondering whether the swa could be hooked up to my rcd protected cooker circuit which is unused as i have a gas cooker one of my neighbours has their shed wired this was done by a "qualified" spark just wanted to know if it is safe to do so or not as the circuit is unused i thought it would save me some miney instead of having a new rcd fitted to the CU then the cable run from there

Thanks for any replies

It may be possible to use the existing circuit but also it may not. There's a lot of variables at play and doing so safely would require a professional electrician on site to assess the existing circuit layout and the new circuit requirements. This really isn't a job that's DIY and without intimate details of earthing arrangements and existing circuit design there's no way you can get safe and accurate advice from a forum, there's a lot of things can go wrong and there's a lot of potential safety issues.

I am planning on getting a spark friend if mine to do the work but he is a very hard man to get hold of one of those people you dont see or hear from for years at a time...so thought id ask about on here cheers for the reply

I think with this type of job you should just wait for your sparky. If your sparky doesn't return maybe post you location and one of the regular experienced members here would be happy to do it for a fair price. Possibly you could even help them out with the donkey work like digging trenches or even doing wall chasing if it's necessary to save some time and keep the costs down.
