Hi,

Ive found out these a wire break to the switch within the wall thats wiring up a storage heater.

Theres a socket next to the storage heater and switch is it possible to spur of the socket which is on a ring to a switch then from that spurred switch to the storage heater? As both wires are 2.5mm?

Im sure you can but not 100%

Thank In Advance.

I thought storage heaters have to be on their own circuit. Better to find the fault and replace the cable - there may be other faults in it and you are leaving a live (at the break) cable.

Off the top of my head, anything over 2.5kw should be on its own circuit.
But the chances are the storage heater is on a different tariff. Wire it up to a socket and it'll empty your pockets!
I'd suggest fixing the wire break then.

Regards

As storage heaters are designed to run for 7-8 hours in 24 for charging you would need to include a timer to ensure that the heater only charges for the correct time and uses off peak electricity for cost. IMO I would find the break and fix it as your option doesn't seem very satisfactory and potentially dangerous as the heater might overheat. As ringer says the broken cable may be live during the economy 7 period if you don't fix it.
