Thanks in advance

I have just started a catering trailer project, from scratch...........

I am getting to the stage where I need to think about electrics and just wanted to post my idea on here to make sure im heading in the right direction.

I have a consumer unit to run out a ring main (6 sockets), I light unit, 1 oven.

My only main stump is how do I ground the electrics from the unit? is this as simple as bringing an earth from the unit and bolting to the steel work of the trailer???

Cheers

Gaz

Sorry to say this but having read your last post about wiring colours you are clearly out of your depth here,Get it wrong and you could end up with a large piece of metal going live.It would be better to get a qualified spark in now than face the consequences when it all goes wrong.post your location,I,m sure someone will help you.

Thanks for the above, all im doing at this point is setting the wiring up for the ring main, lights & cooker. I will be getting a sparky to test/cert the final electrics but just needed to know about an earth before I drop and seal the floor.

As for my post last week regarding wire colours i have now sorted, it turns out the cable i had off my farther is external 240 lighting cable which his sparky left him when fixing his security lighting, I have now required all the correct cable from B&Q..

If I'm honest buddy you need to take Phil's advice. Besides, no professional electrician would certify work that they haven't done themselves so you might find yourself in a rather annoying position a few weeks/months down the line when you've completed all the work and it's looking like a pukka job but you can't find an electrician to sign it off unless it's all ripped out and started from scratch.

If cost cutting is a major issue, I'm sure if you got a bonafide spark in, he'd be more than happy for you to help him with the install in a labourer type role. I once carried out a rewire with the customer helping in this way. Worked out cheaper for him, he was involved at every stage which is what he wanted most and considering he was originally going to try and undertake the job himself, once he was made aware of the dangers he was more than happy to get a proper spark in to actually do the work.

Thanks, so I'm thinking that im best running my cable around the inside in the correct place then getting a sparky to come and huck up etc.

Thanks

I was talking to a guy at a burger van the other week and he was telling me the council want to see certification now, so as my two learned friends advise you need a spark involved

Gary it,s not as simple as running the cable round and hooking it up as you say, there are a lot of things that can affect the cable and what you run it in,also the size of cable.I know people like to try and do as much as they can themselves but it could cost you more if you install a load of cable wrongly and the spark has to rip it out and start again,as said before post your location and let someone help you.

No, let the sparky advise what is best. Oh, and to answer your original question, your earthing setup will depend entirely on the method of supply, so again, you need a spark.

As said no decent electrician will test it without first seeing the installation of the cabling etc and it being accessable to the public otherwise they would end up in front of the person wearing a white wig and black gown should someone get hurt due to faulty electrics.

Get an electrician from the start and have it done properly so you know that the right type of cable etc is used as the last thing you need is 6-months down the road all the electrics stop working as it is broken due to vibration etc.

I have now required all the correct cable from B&Q..

I'm not an expert, but if this is a mobile trailer, you may be required to use flexible cable to withstand the vibration involved. What cable do you have? And how have you calculated the sizes required, taking into account that you may be adding insulation to the walls and roof of the trailer.

I reckon he's gone along to the shed and asked one of the friendly helpful experts who has told him that 1/1.5mm is for lights and for plugs it's 2.5mm.
The foregoing is not intended as a dig at the OP
