If there is very little slack for you to wire up a switch or socket, can I use connectpr blocks to extend the cables?

nope. maintenance free connectors ( wagos, or crimps) in an enclosure, which may be trunking.

if the cables reach into the back box, but are too short to terminate, then use crimps in the back box, or line products through connectors ( they just push in.)

Connectors are fine if at a switch position , an i certainly wouldn't make a connection in trunking , I'd come out into box and back in again.....

But are you an apprentice, like many on here, who's doing domestic work unsupervised? Just asking.

I am a maintenance apprentice with no domestic electrical experience. I work in a hospital and when replacing sockets or switches there I have not come across where there is very little slack which makes it hard to wire in your new socket or switch. So I was asking a general question so if I do come across a problem like I asked about I know how to resolve it the proper way. Thanks for all your replies peps.
