Hi all,

Very good advice been given here on our new bathroom installation thank you once again.

I am in the process of seating cable in the wall prior to tiling and thinking ahead to the type of switch there may be in a cabinet with built in lights, being very aware of safty in the bathroom enviroment could any one
suggest the safest type of swicth system to use, also am I right to presume a single cable feeding from the loft via the wall is sufficient?

Very grateful for any advice.

Ian

Usually, these type of lights or cabinets are fed from the main bathroom lighting, and will only come on when the main light is on.
Often there is no separate switch or FCU.
If you do want something to be able to isolate, then perhaps a switch or FCU at high level outside of the zones, however the accessory should be rated at least IPX4.

If you take your feed to the switch (outside the bathroom, standard switch, won't work with pullcords (which look crap anyway)) you can amend for this kind of thing.

-If the cabinet needs separate switching, you change your 1 gang to a 2 gang switch
-If you want both to come on at the same time, both out's on the same switch
-If the lights on the cabinet are switched at the cabinet (e.g. its own built in switch or come on when doors opened) you just loop the feed out of the switch to the cabinet

Sorry fin what won't work with a pull cord .......................what does a "standard" or faceplate switch have that a pull cord dosen't

Sorry, Should of phrased it a bit better. My method would not work as you cannot get a 2 gang pull cord to separate switching to the lights/ cabinet if that was the way to go

If you are going outside zones then no need for any IP rating. FCU or switched FCU just below ceiling where your cabinet is going wired from RFC. You can wire the cabinet into this and fit appropriate fuse. Simples.

Don't forget, circuits have to be RCD protected and it is notifiable.

Thanks for that, Do you have any experience with low voltage switch systems using a transformer/controller
located out of bathroom area switching controlled by hand movement over concealed circuit board??
