Just a heads up really,

There's an excellent article by Geoff Cronshaw in the latest edition of Wiring Matters, covers the 3 main earthing systems - earthing & bonding conductors etc.

Also, and I'm a bit afraid of mentioning it, he writes about the distribution of a PME system (whispering now.....outdoors)!!!!, including caravan sites.

Well worth keeping an eye out for.

:stuart:

shhh you'll get in to trouble using them two words in one sentence! lol!!

Well i thought it quite basic to be honest and correctly installed PME is as safe if not more safe than TT for any install.
Trouble is the DNO's are limited on cost these days so they don't correctly install PME and it's not taught in college courses as there are no real apprenticeships any more.
The issue is that TN-C-S in the UK even though it is supposed to be PME is actually not, even though it is a half hearted attempt with all the drawbacks and none of the advantages!
Think about it and look at the REAL science and then do the maths, then try to flame me with correct scientific arguments please else I'll just ignore the posts.

I know where your coming from with your argument on PME and in general terms i quite agree with you on this issue. However, i'm assured by my long standing DNO friend, that in his company at least (Essex area) every joint the DNO purchases, comes complete with either 2 x 1.2m 5/8'' (c/w coupler) or a 3m 3/4'' earth rod. I'm also told that they will use these rods to earth the neutral even on the existing TN-S joints that have failed, or being extended, as the trend is to PME all LV DNO distribution networks. I can't say this is the case in every DNO camp, but it is in Essex it seems...

If only everyone could be as knowledgeable as you Paul...........

The number of times this subject has come up on the forums, the article will for a lot of people go a little way to dispelling the myths.

do you not think tho, the fact that this is a forum and there is a wide array of people on here from non sparks to people of been doing it for a long time, that we should cut people some slack?

Lenny,
I am sorry but that article is only what is covered during college courses and thus should be familiar to any qualified and competent electrician.
If they are not familiar with such things then they are not competent.
How can the be when this topic is so fundamental to the whole principal of ADS?
