First post here so please be gentle. Looking for a helping hand on wiring lighting for a three storey home as it is baffling me a bit. What I want to achieve is the following:

GF: Four gang switch operating the outside light, porch light, ground floor hall light and first floor hall light.
FF: Three gang switch operating the ground floor hall light, the first floor hall light and the second floor hall light
SF: Two gang switch operating the first floor hall light and the second floor hall light.

Bit of advice would be much appreciated

As Robson689 says... straight forward. Above switches easily available.....Split over 2/3 circuits, just from a safety point of view if one circuit has a fault, some lighting left working.

do you want help with actual how to wire and connect? or something else? sounds very basic TBH, sorry to sound sarcastic but really is a basic job.

At a guess, if he isnt using grids or clicks, as robbo suggests then he will struggle on standard switches. ie the intermediate with a 2 way, they dont do them. but i cant see an intermediate in his set up.

edit lmao im talking in riddles today

actually mem can be taken apart and intermediates installed, buy a 3 gang 2 way switch for example and a 1 gang intermediate and you can take the switch out and alter it, there is a brass screw holding the switch in, mem will do the job

Yrs ago with Ashley 2 gang 3 gang or 4 gang standard light switches you could remove a 2 way switch and replace with an intermediate switch.......bit like a grid system. Not so sure you can still do that now. Bit out of touch!

Yes i know we can butcher a switch to suit, but it wasnt designed that way, and neither was my hammer rashed fat arthritic fingers that nimble now lol.

CBA mentioning/explaining another single backbox on first or 2nd flr

You are looking at the classical multiway stair switching arrangement.
Don't forget to label your cables at the switches because what looks simple on paper becomes a headache in practice.

I had this as a prospective dilemma on one job. the client wanted touch button control on all lighting circuits. I thought fair enough but does she really want these? So I worked out how the cabling could run to satisfy both arrangements. and sure enough she had changed her mind, typical, and wanted standard light switching.

So as others have stated use a grid switch assembly, looks reasonably neat without confusion.

No need to butcher anything bud, I am against that type of practice, the MEM switches are almost grid like and do just come out with unscrewing a brass screw and then you can add a different switch, how dare you suggest I would recommend butchering anything, fisty cuffs at dawn at junction 11a of the M5 please

I was trying to use another word but the profanity filter was kicking in lol. Aye and you want me to do a 5 day camel ride down the country just to bleed all over you.

"It works" and "it's safe" are not necessarily the same thing. With DIY work, they are often far from the same thing.
